Dr. Jim Anderson Speaks At The University Of South Florida
Dr. Jim Anderson recently spoke at the University of South Florida (USF) before a packed crowd of MIS graduating seniors. Dr. Ellis Blanton had arranged for Dr. Anderson to deliver his “10 Secrets To Having A Successful IT Career” keynote speech. This was the 10th time that Dr. Anderson had been invited to deliver a keynote address to a USF audience.
What made this particular speech so important is the current global recession has put today’s graduating seniors on edge — they don’t know what the future holds for them and some are even questioning why they selected a career in IT in the first place.
During his speech Dr. Anderson moved quickly to allay these fears. He took the time to review what he had learned from his college career and how he had finally come to understand that it’s not what you learn in college that matters, but rather how you learn to learn that will last for your entire career.
After the speech was over, Dr. Anderson took the time to answer questions from the students. Many of their questions revolved around the value of IT certifications and if they should bother to obtain them. Dr. Anderson answered these questions and more.
When asked about the speech, Dr. Anderson said “Of all the speeches that I give, this is one of my favorites. These students are just on the edge of leaving behind the life that they’ve grown to know for the past 4, 5, or even 6 years and are scared of what the future may hold for them. My purpose in giving this speech is to reassure them they they’ve made the right career choice and that they are going to be successful.”
